Question and Answer

Jacqueline Gosling
can mahonia japonic be grown in pot facing north and cope with Surrey heatwaves also it too sharp to be near a front door ?
Answered by Longacres 13/10/26

Good Morning,

Our plant experts would not advise growing a Mahonia Japonica in a pot as they are better suited to being planted in the ground. They can also be very sharp which could pose an issue if close to a front door that is frequently used. Instead, they would recommend the Mahonia Soft Caress, which is well suited to being pot grown, and also has softer leaves to avoid injury if placed near a high traffic area. For more advice, please don't hesitate to give us a call on 01276 476778 and speak to a member of the shrubs team.

Kind Regards.
