Mauve-purple flowers only 4cm (1.75in) long, slightly twisted outer tepals, a good colour and the first of all the alpina and macropetala types to flower each year.

The foliage can become untidy, but worth growing for the early flowers.

Flowers mid to late spring and overall height is 6-7ft.
