Tips On Making The Most Of Your Garden With The Family This Summer

Looking for a way to keep the kids entertained this summer, without breaking the bank? Get the whole family enjoying fresh air and staying active by giving your outside space a makeover.

We’ll give you some tips on how to update your space and make the most of your garden over the summer holidays, giving you more time to have fun and make memories.

Give them some space of their own

By giving kids their own dedicated space in the garden, you’re encouraging them to spend more time outside, plus, you’re giving them a special area to play in which they can be proud of (meaning they’re less likely to dig up your flower beds!)

Depending on the size of your garden, you could section off a whole area for them, build a raised bed or sand pit together (if you’re a DIY enthusiast) or simply have a space where they can play with their toys outside. We stock raised beds, compost, sleepers, sand and much more in store and online.

If you have a small garden or balcony, pots and balcony planters are a fantastic way of giving children their own space and projects to work on. We have plenty of plants and equipment for growing your own herbs, vegetables and more, which Is also a great way to help little ones get their 5 a day.

Get them involved

Gardening as a family can be great fun – get the kids involved with their own equipment and give them jobs to do like watering or sweeping. Check out our children’s gardening equipment, including rakes, spades, wheelbarrows and watering cans.

Choose new plants carefully and make sure they are safe for children and pets. Avoid plants with thorns, berries and anything potentially poisonous. We offer a fantastic range of shrubs, bedding plants, trees and more that are great for adding pops of colour to your outdoor space, without harming little ones or furry friends.

Make sure there's plenty to do

Not green-fingered? Treat the kids to some new outside toys (which can be much cheaper than a day out to a theme park). We have some fantastic toys online and in store at great prices, plus, some pretty and practical picnicware in store to help you enjoy some family meals in the garden or when out and about.

Alfresco dining at home

Still struggling to get the kids outdoors? Food will always tempt them! Having meals outside in the summer is a great way of getting everyone out of the house and spending time together.

At Longacres we have a great selection of garden furniture, including dining sets, lounge sets, recliners and other seating. We even have fold away chairs (great to take camping and wonderful if your outside space is small and you haven’t got space for furniture to be out all year round).

Whatever your style and budget, we’ve got a range to suit you.
