Beat the drought - tips for your garden! |
| Despite the fact the hosepipe ban seems to have brought on the wettest weather we've seen this year so far, the ban is unlikely to go away in the immediate future. With this in mind we've put together some tips to help keep your garden green. The Longacres web site has more tips - click here to view them all. We also have a list of 'drought resistant' plants - click here for details. |
Keep your water in the ground! Putting a mulch down helps reduce the loss of moisture in the soil (as well as keeping the weeds down!) There are several choices available for mulch, including cocoa shell, bark chippings and manure. Make sure your mulch is at least 5cm deep! Westland Chipped Bark (pictured) is currently on offer - £4.99 each or 3 for £12. |
You can also plant using a compost that will help during the hosepipe ban and drought period. Miracle Gro Moisture Control Compost has an exclusive Aquacoir formula that stores and releases water when plants need it! Ideal for hanging baskets, containers and pots - inside and out. It's also enriched with Miracle-Gro Plant Food - feeds for up to 6 months. |
| Bouquet of the Month - with free vase! |
| Each month we design a new hand-tied arrangement, couple it with an attractive glass vase and call it the bouquet of the month. This time we must have really hit the spot, as it has been the best selling bouquet so far! The arrangement consists of yellow roses, white lilies, lisianthus, button chrysanthemums, solidago and tulips, set against a mixture of attractive foliage. This bouquet is available on the Longacres site now, priced at £30 plus delivery. The free vase has been a real hit, so don't miss out! |
| Cut Flower Recommendation |
![]() |
Our recommendation this week is Celosia - 'Cock's Comb'. They are an unusual flower with a wonderful texture - our florists suggest you try the 'Bombay Orange' variety for impact. Buy them when around a third of the flowers are open. They will last well if you use a clean vase and give them a good feed with flower food. |
